Notes from Our Concertmaster

Hi everyone.  What has it been – 10 months since we have been able to gather to play and listen to a live Civic Orchestra performance?  There is hope coming our way with the COVID vaccine,  and I look forward to seeing all of you this summer at small outdoor chamber music concerts and later in the fall,  indoors, for our first full orchestra concert!  Meanwhile, I’ve spent time listening to my favorite orchestral and small ensemble works online.  I’ve been able to boost my mood and energy levels, and to relax,  by listening to the following selections.  I hope you will enjoy them.

1. For an energy boost, I have been listening to Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet Suite.  It’s a little dark, but it gets me moving!

2. For more relaxed, happy, thoughtful enjoyment, I listen to Grieg’s Op. 40 Holberg Suite.

3. Given that Civic Orchestra musicians will be playing several chamber music concerts this summer, I thought you might enjoy listening to one of my favorite ensembles, the Danish String Quartet.  My husband and I were privileged to sit in the front row at a concert they performed at the Swedish Institute in November of 2019.  Enjoy listening to Woodland Works!  I plan to program a Civic string quartet to play one of their selections this summer.   – Stay tuned and stay healthy!
